Like many of my fellow citizens, I am sick and tired of the continuous government shutdowns and the blame game played on both sides of the aisle. Year after year, Congress struggles to pass a budget on time, often resorting to temporary fixes or failing to agree, resulting in government shutdowns. These shutdowns disrupt vital services, impact federal employees, and erode trust in our elected officials.

It's high time Congress is held accountable. We propose a mandate requiring Congress to produce a balanced budget before the fiscal year begins. This means ensuring all expenses align with revenues, without relying on deficit spending. A balanced budget is not just a fiscal responsibility but a commitment to the American taxpayers who deserve a government that can manage its finances efficiently.

Moreover, this balanced budget must be free from unrelated amendments or "pork barrel" spending, unless directly impacted by the respective appropriation bill. This will ensure that funds are allocated appropriately and projects are not unnecessarily attached to important legislation.

In the event that Congress fails to meet this obligation, we propose that Congressional members be held accountable by withholding their salaries. Under this proposal, no back pay shall be allowed, emphasizing the commitment to timely action.
