Mandate Comprehensive Waste Segregation Policies

Mandate Comprehensive Waste Segregation Policies
The Issue
Our community is facing critical levels of air and water pollution, a situation that not only impacts our daily lives, but also threatens our long-term health and the vibrant ecosystem that surrounds us. This alarming state of affairs can be significantly improved through the implementation of proper waste segregation. Time and again, studies have shown that systematic waste segregation and disposal have positive impacts on reducing air and water pollution (World Health Organization). Yet, our community lacks a comprehensive policy in this regard.
By requiring proper waste segregation, we can decrease airborne contaminants and limit the introduction of harmful substances into our water systems. For example, in South Korea, enforcement of mandatory waste segregation led to a 40% reduction in recyclable waste going to landfills within a decade (Korean Statistical Information Service). There's no reason we can't achieve similar results.
This is not only about the environment, but also about human health and well-being. As residents, we bear the brunt of the pollution, but we also hold the power to instigate change. This starts with our actions, and with our demand for effective waste segregation. By doing so, we can both mitigate the environmental impact of our waste and help to lead our community toward a cleaner, healthier future. We urge you to sign this petition to mandate comprehensive waste segregation in our community.
