Mandate Communication Boards in Illinois Parks

Mandate Communication Boards in Illinois Parks
The Issue
My son is nonverbal. He often feels frustrated when he cannot express what he needs or wants. I know firsthand the significant role communication boards can play in bridging the gap for individuals like him. These tools are not just essential for my child, but also for countless others in Illinois who struggle with communication. Advocating for equipment like this is what led me to start Advocates For Acceptance.
Communication boards provide a means for individuals with special needs and their caregivers to interact in public spaces. They are invaluable in promoting inclusivity and understanding. In public and school parks, they can serve as a lifeline, ensuring every child and adult has the means to express themselves, interact with others, and fully participate in community life.
Currently, many parks in Illinois lack these crucial communication tools. By mandating their installation, we can take a significant step towards inclusivity, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their communication ability, feels welcome and understood.
Consider the positive impact this could have—not only for individuals with special needs but also for their families, friends, and the wider community. Communication boards can transform lives, offering people the opportunity to connect and express themselves freely.
I urge the Illinois government and local authorities to prioritize the installation of communication boards in all public and school parks. This is an actionable step towards a more inclusive society, where every voice can be heard and understood.
Please join me in advocating for this essential cause. Sign this petition to bring communication boards to every park in Illinois, and help make our public spaces more inclusive for everyone.
