My son is nonverbal. He often feels frustrated when he cannot express what he needs or wants. I know firsthand the significant role communication boards can play in bridging the gap for individuals like him. These tools are not just essential for my child, but also for countless others in Illinois who struggle with communication.  Advocating for equipment like this is what led me to start Advocates For Acceptance. 

Communication boards provide a means for individuals with special needs and their caregivers to interact in public spaces. They are invaluable in promoting inclusivity and understanding. In public and school parks, they can serve as a lifeline, ensuring every child and adult has the means to express themselves, interact with others, and fully participate in community life.

Currently, many parks in Illinois lack these crucial communication tools. By mandating their installation, we can take a significant step towards inclusivity, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their communication ability, feels welcome and understood.
