The Issue

My heart shattered when I lost my beloved Rosie Belle, a cheerful and loving companion whose life ended tragically due to a groomer's negligence. We entrusted Rosie Belle to a professional groomer, unaware of the torment she would endure. During a routine grooming session, she was struck on the head, suffering a traumatic brain injury. This injury went unreported by the groomer, leaving Rosie Belle untreated. Consequently, she was plagued with seizures that ultimately ended her life. Her loss is something I carry with me every day.

Rosie Belle's story underlines the urgent need for change in Tennessee’s pet grooming industry. It is time to protect our cherished pets and ensure their wellbeing by mandating that all groomers in Tennessee be certified and licensed. This will ensure they possess the necessary skills and knowledge to handle our pets with the utmost care. Equally important is to grant owners the right to observe the grooming process, whether in person or via video.

Pet grooming involves more than just aesthetics; it’s an issue of safety and trust. According to the American Pet Products Association, 67% of U.S. households, or about 85 million families, own a pet. That's millions of vulnerable beings who deserve safe and professional grooming services. In Tennessee, where pets are family, we cannot overlook the lapses that lead to unnecessary pain and suffering.

Licensing and certification for groomers will provide a layer of accountability and ensure our pets' safety. Requiring visible access to grooming sessions allows pet owners to ensure their beloved animals receive the humane treatment they deserve. These measures will help restore trust and safeguard against future tragedies like Rosie Belle's.

I urge you to join me in demanding that Tennessee lawmakers establish stronger regulations for pet grooming. By signing this petition, you contribute to a movement striving to protect our pets and prevent further heartbreak. Let us be the voice for those who cannot speak.
