The Issue

My mum had carers who failed terribly in their role, often poorly treating her and neglecting basic duties necessary for her wellbeing. As a result, the elderly, like my mum, are being put at risk in environments that should be safe and nurturing.

Elderly home care isn’t just about attending to the physical needs of our seniors; it’s about providing them with a secure, respectful, and dignified environment. When caregivers fall short of these expectations, the consequences can be devastating, both physically and psychologically. A possible solution to this growing issue is the installation of cameras in homes where elderly care is provided.

Cameras not only help ensure the safety of the elderly but also serve as a means of protection for the carers who genuinely perform their jobs well. By having surveillance, caregivers are more likely to adhere to their duties adequately, and complaints can be assessed fairly and justly.

Numerous cases nationwide highlight the need for increased monitoring in the homes of the elderly. According to a study by the Journal of Elder Abuse & Neglect, approximately 10% of elderly individuals experience some form of abuse, often in their own homes by people meant to care for them.

Mandating the installation of cameras would provide family members peace of mind, knowing they can check in anytime with the assurance that any concern regarding a loved one's care is documented and addressed promptly. It's a simple step with profound implications for the quality of life and safety of our seniors.

By taking this step, we ensure transparency and responsibility in elderly care services, paving the way for improved standards across the board. Let's protect our loved ones by making the installation of home cameras in elderly care settings mandatory.
