Mandate Both Men and Women to Register for Selective Service at Age 18

Mandate Both Men and Women to Register for Selective Service at Age 18
The Issue
This petition comes with a deeply personal story. As a Veteran, Selective Service and service to the country is of utmost importance to me. It is not only a matter of National Security, but National Pride. It's about the desire to serve our country with Honor, Pride, and Integrity.
In the United States, Selective Service registration has been a requirement exclusively for men since it was reinstated in 1980. However, with women now serving in combat roles, it is only fair and just that they too are required to register for the Selective Service. According to the Defense Department, as of 2015, there were more than 200,000 women on active duty, serving in all roles, including combat missions (Source: Defense Department).
Expanding the Selective Service to include women would further promote gender equality, reflecting the fact that both men and women have equal parts to play in the defense of our nation. In this progress towards a fairer society, we cannot leave out the important aspect of equal responsibility and duty towards the nation.
Therefore, by signing this petition, you are supporting the proposition to mandate all individuals, regardless of their gender, to register for the Selective Service when they reach the age of 18. Further, this will reinforce the message that not only are men and women equal in rights and opportunities, but also in responsibilities. Please sign our petition today.
