Mandate Authentic Average Market Rent for NS Housing Applications
The Issue
As a single mother who was fortunate enough to locate somewhat affordable housing, I understand the struggle that so many face in the search for a home within their financial reach. The struggle for affordability in housing is substantially amplified when the system intended to provide support is so flawed.
Our present concern lies with the data being provided to Nova Scotia Housing. Applicants are being denied due to an inaccurate representation of average market rent. The application currently uses inaccurate and outdated figures rather than real numbers to qualify applicants, thus tipping the scale unfavourably for many deserving families.
This is the current data used for applicants:

We are urging the Provincial government to use updated and accurate numbers when determining AMR. This small yet significant administrative change will foster a more equitable access to those truly in need of affordable housing.
If policies are built upon inaccuracies, they fail to serve those they were created to protect. Sign this petition, demand accurate average market rent for NS Housing applications, and stand with families struggling with housing affordability. Even sharing these numbers can go a long way in correcting an injustice in the system.
