As a volunteer animal rescue organization, we have seen firsthand the alarming number of wildlife trapped in swimming pools. We have worked tirelessly to rescue countless creatures, and we believe it is time for change. We are calling on local, state, and federal authorities to legislate that all pools must be equipped with animal escape ramps, which create a safe exit for wildlife and pets who inadvertently fall in.

According to the Humane Society, thousands of small mammals and birds die each year because they are unable to escape from pools, buckets, fountains, and other open water sources they fall into (Humane Society, United States). Additionally, the National Wildlife Federation reports some animals such as squirrels, rabbits, and birds are particularly prone to falling into pools and not being able to escape (National Wildlife Federation, United States).

By integrating an animal escape ramp into every pool, we can avoid unnecessary harm to wildlife and make our spaces kinder and safer for all inhabitants.
