I am a school bus driver and a parent of two children who ride the bus daily. Every day, I witness firsthand the discomfort and health risks that extreme temperatures pose to our children during their commute. It's time we address this issue head-on.

Across the country, millions of students rely on school buses for transportation. However, many of these vehicles lack air conditioning, making them unbearably hot during warmer months. According to the National Weather Service, heat is one of the leading weather-related killers in the United States, resulting in hundreds of fatalities each year (National Weather Service).

Our children should not have to endure such conditions while traveling to and from school - places where they are supposed to be safe and comfortable. The lack of air conditioning on school buses is not only an issue about comfort but also about safety.

By mandating air conditioning on all school buses nationwide, we can ensure that every child has a comfortable and safe journey to and from school regardless of how hot it gets outside.

Let's prioritize our children's safety over cost savings. Let's make sure no child has to suffer through another sweltering ride home from school again.
