Mandate AED Provision at John Warren Sports Complex, Cleburne, Tx Youth Sports
The Issue
This petition is informed by a deeply personal narrative, that of my son Bradley, who was born with Shone’s Complex, a congenital heart condition. He has a passion for baseball but when he steps on that field I’m in constant fear, as his condition puts him at greater risk for heart complications on the field.
Our city - Cleburne – earnestly supports our children’s love for sports and community engagement. Yet, despite being host to many active kids like Bradley, the Baseball/Softball Association is woefully unprepared for cardiac emergencies. There is an absolute lack of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) – requisite equipment that could instantly stabilize a heart in distress.
Less than 10% of people survive out-of-hospital cardiac arrests, but this number triples when an AED is used swiftly (source: American Heart Association). Given this startling reality, the absence of AEDs on baseball and softball fields is alarming and needs immediate correction.
Therefore, it is incumbent upon us, as residents of Cleburne and supporters of local sports, to petition the city of Cleburne to mandate AED provisioning at all Baseball/Softball Association facilities. By signing this petition, we are not only helping children like Bradley play safely, but also ensuring that our community can continue to enjoy baseball and softball without fear.
Please sign the petition and help bring about this life-saving change. We are one signature closer to making our environment safer for our young athletes.
