I am a concerned parent who simply wants my child to be safe at school, a place meant for learning and growth; not fear. The recent rise in school shootings across the nation has left me petrified. I do not want my child to live in fear of being killed by someone at school, hence it's time to improve the safety measures at all Hutto ISD schools. I propose the mandatory installation of actively functioning metal detectors and bullet-proof film on all exterior facing windows and doors. The National Education Association reports a devastating 240 school shootings between 2013 - 2019, leaving 424 dead or injured. Thus, these modifications are not a luxury, but must be perceived as a necessity to ensure the safety of our children - the future of our nation. Every child deserves to study in a safe and secure environment. It's time we prioritize their safety over anything else. I urge our school district, staff, parents, and all citizens who care about our children, to sign this petition and demand safer schools.
