Mandate 24/7 Emergency Veterinary Services with Adequate Equipment in West Branch, Mi
The Issue
I am a resident of West Branch, Michigan and recently experienced a heartbreaking loss. My beloved cat fell into an emergency situation and the closest "emergency" vet was in Roscommon. Tragically, this facility lacked the necessary equipment to provide the urgent care needed. They were unable to keep her in an oxygen cage due to their closing hours. We were asked to leave and my precious pet passed away before we could reach a 24-hour emergency vet in Traverse City.
This personal tragedy underscores a larger issue - the lack of round-the-clock veterinary services equipped with proper medical tools within our community. It is unacceptable that pet owners are left helpless during emergencies due to inadequate facilities or restrictive operating hours.
According to American Pet Products Association (APPA), approximately 67% of U.S households own at least one pet. This translates into millions of pets nationwide who may need emergency care at any given time. In rural areas like ours, access becomes even more critical as distance can be life-threatening during emergencies.
It's time for change! We urge local authorities and veterinary boards in West Branch, Michigan, to mandate 24/7 emergency veterinary services equipped with all necessary medical equipment within our community boundaries.
No pet owner should have to experience what I went through - feeling helpless while your loved one suffers because there is no adequate help available when you need it most.
