This touch of class should have been decades ago by the club. Although there is a road named after him and a statue of him, it is only right and proper to follow Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Bobby Charlton to have a stand named after another legend that is Sir Matt Busby. Remember what he achieved in the 25 years with the club, as well as the dealings from the Munich tragedy at that time. Please take the time to watch all the clips attached to this petition. Although I have attached the trailer above, I highly recommend watching the film 'Busby' which gives you an understanding and appreciation of him. The Stretford End will always be that, but if the North Stand and the South Stand have been renamed in honour of legends already mentioned, rightly so, then so should the East Stand, after all there is a statue of Sir Matt Busby outside that particular stand and a long banner inside. A tiny request of a petition to sign, and share to others to follow suit, is worth so much to our club of all generations. This petition is the start of hopefully turning it to a possible reality. A huge thanks to those who added their own reasons for signing this which is found below, worth reading if your still not convinced to sign. 

So how can you help? Well lots of ways, but the most important and a must is to SIGN the petition! The more signatures, the more fan representation, and if I have enough signatures, by that I mean in its thousands, I can then look at ways of pursuing this further to the club. Until then, share this petition out there any means necessary, spread the word to your local supporters club, get them to mention it to other branches, or even if your a member of MUDSA or MUST etc, give this a mention for other members to sign. I have named a few groups that I have already shared this to and are mentioned here in the petition, but the more the merrier. Also if you can, share this actually inside and around Old Trafford itself, print some posters/leaflets and leave them inside the stadium. Do you know anybody within the club that you can mention this to? There are so many ways to get this out in the public domain. It is in your hands!! 'Believe' dear friends that this can happen, make your voice heard!! This is achievable if we all do our bit, I got it started but I cannot complete this alone. It really would be amazing if this does happen. Nobody wants it to stay as the East Stand surely? So if the change does happen, remember all of us contributed to this. Having said that, I hope our club are aware of this petition, and decide themselves to make this happen, they could do it today, and that would be very welcome. Thank you.

I note others have different preferences. Some wanted to see it changed for a future manager but that is hugely unlikely to follow what Busby and Ferguson had achieved for our club. Some call this 'Scoreboard End', it is not official anymore, and it is also redundant calling that now as there are scoreboards behind both goals, but more importantly it is an absolute disservice to Sir Matt Busby. Some wanted it 'Jimmy Murphy Stand' but that is not possible as he has a statue located on a new elevated canopy section at the rear of the Stretford End, unveiled on 4th May 2023. This goes along with Jimmy Murphy Centre and Jimmy Murphy Young Player Of The Year Award.

So the stand must be renamed in honour of Sir Matt Busby, who already has a statue outside that stand as well as long banner inside that stand. There is no credible alternative. Jimmy Murphy, Busby Babes and the rest would have wanted this for Busby. You can name any legend past or present all with perfectly good reasons, but sadly there are not enough stands to honour so many legends. Whoever we think of, we can all agree it should not be called the East Stand any longer.

As mentioned above, I believe it should be in honour of Busby for what he achieved, and his courage regarding the tragedy and the aftermath of it. Not only that, it would be the perfect match to the statue of him and the banner that are both already at that stand. Even the song we sing today and beyond is relevant to this as 'we play football the Busby way'. And I also believe the Busby Babes themselves would have have wanted the stand to be renamed in honour of Busby.
