Please sign this petition to send a message to the owners and executives at the clubs pushing for a European “Super League” (currently: Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham, Chelsea, Juventus, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid) that we do not want such a league and will not support it, even if they somehow manage to force one into existence.

The idea of automatic, preordained, perennial qualification for certain teams to any sporting tournament is fundamentally at odds with the spirit, excitement and allure of any/all competitive athletics. 

We all support our clubs for different reasons, but in the end a fundamental reason we watch and invest our time, energy, hearts and - yes, money - in these teams/leagues is because on any given day one team can beat another, regardless of expectations or prior results. This sense of hope and belief stokes our passion for not just our own clubs, but the idea of competitive sport generally.

The idea of a “Super League”, as set forth by the aforementioned teams’ owners/executives, lacks utterly this most basic and vital aspect of competitive football: everyone has a chance to qualify and those who qualify have an opportunity to compete and win. Without these foundational elements of competition, the “trophies” on offer are robbed of meaning and the “matchups” of these historic clubs become devoid of the context, aura and novelty that have made them so special and memorable up to now.

We cannot allow this to happen. Not on our watch. We were here before these owners/executives arrived and we will be here after they leave. So we must protect our beloved clubs and our beautiful game. And - together - we can. Because while they have the control, we have the power. Collectively, we can make enough noise to silence their money driven ambitions and show them that their effort to drain our sport of competitive spirit in order to fill their own bank accounts will backfire.
