RESPECT OUR CITY CENTRE

Feb 2, 2017
Over 3000 of us have signed this petition - thank you so much!
But now that the Council has received the planning application it's really important that all 3000+ of us give our comments directly to the Council AS WELL. Please click this link - bit.ly/2kOCp8u - tick the "OBJECT" box and add your comments. (Your details WON'T be made public.)
Planning Law means the Council MUST pay attention to what you say to the Council's own on-line form, so it will mean MUCH more than comments and signatures on this petition, which they can dismiss. So please act NOW to tell the Council you OBJECT to the planning application. Here's the link again: bit.ly/2kOCp8u
The developers' planning application clearly states: "The proposed development will also result in major adverse impacts on the setting of the Grade I Town Hall, Grade II* Town Hall Extension, Grade II* Central Library and Grade I St Ann’s Square and consequently also the character and appearance of the Albert Square, St Peter’s Square and St Ann’s Square Conservation Areas. The Heritage Statement therefore concludes that the proposed development will result in substantial harm to the identified heritage assets."
This is dreadful! Historic England were absolutely right when they said last July that these plans "would cause a high level of harm" to our city centre and the developer waved them away saying they were "only one stakeholder..."..
The developers want the Council to decide that the "benefits" of their building the towers would outweigh the permanent and irreversible harm done to our city. That's crazy! Jobs and new business activity can be provided on this site without scarring our city centre for ever.
The towers are in the WRONG PLACE. They will impact adversely, permanently and irreversibly on a substantial and important part of Manchester’s heritage assets and character. Please use this critical opportunity to give your opinion directly to the Council directly by filling in the Council's own on-line form and checking the "OBJECT" box. THANK YOU!
