Mammogram age to be reduced to 25, no cut off at 70 and men to be added to the list
The Issue
As a woman under 50, previously diagnosed with 2 breast cancers and with no previous family history of breast cancer in my family, I am looking to make a change to breast cancer screening.
After speaking to many women, who've also like myself been diagnosed under 50 with breast cancer who've got no previous family history of the disease, we believe the screening age needs to change!
My first proposal to you Mr Prime Minister is this, women under 50, with or without family history should be offered a mammogram from the age of 25, if your old enough for a smear test then same should apply to a mammogram. Better still, why not offer the two screenings together, when your nurse practitioner at your G.P surgery sends your smear samples to be checked, they also book you in for a mammogram, two birds one stone, early detection, better treatment, so many lives hopefully saved.
My second proposal is; Please remove the cut off age at 70! So many women are still being diagnosed with breast cancer beyond this age bracket, they too should be entitled to the same screening as ladies younger than them, cancer dies not discriminate against younger ir older people, cancer doesnt care, so please remove the age cap.
Lastly, my third and final proposal is; I strongly believe that men aged 25 and above should also be entitled to breast screening, as men are just as much at risk of breast cancer as women, instead if a mammogram men should be offered alternatives such as an ultrasound.
Please help me get as many signatures on this petition and hopefully get this to Mr Andy Burnham and maybe one day officially legislation, thank you
