Clean River Bakreshwar

The Issue

The ancient river Bakreshwar flows through the virtuous land of Bakreshwar, in Birbhum district of West Bengal. Bakreshwar is a highly revered pilgrimage site, it is a Siddha Peeth and one of the 51 shakti peeths. Reference to Bakreshwar river can be found in our Puranas, where it was called 'Paap Hara', meaning one which removes all sins, but today the water of the same river is highly polluted. Currently, the cremation ground is situated on the banks of the river, and people led by various superstitions dump the material possessions of the deceased into the river. As a result, the river's water has become very contaminated, and due to the lack of currents in the river, the objects keep floating, which is very dangerous for both the common man and nature. We request you to clean the river and ensure stringent laws to prevent dumping of such items in the river.
