Apply to the Home Office's Syrian Vulnerable Persons Relocation (SVPR) scheme
The Issue
The situation in Syria means that the world is facing the worst refugee crisis since WWII. The UK Government has set up the SVPR scheme to help in the crisis. However so far this only provided refuge to 187 people.
Malvern has a proud history of providing sanctuary to those in need.
Malvern Hills District Council (MHDC) should demonstrate its humanitarian spirit by responding positively to the Government's invitation (made to all local authorities in the last year) to play its part in the international relief program. This should be done by working with relevant partners, including Worcestershire County Council, to make an application to the Home Office's SVPR Scheme for the District to host a small number of Syrian refugee families.
