Australians, Christian Porter (Minister for Human Services) has stated that there's been a low number of complaints against this system. Andrew Wilkies (Tasmania MP) has requested the ombudsman look into the matter. Although the number of complaints is rising, they're not indicative of a real problem. What you need to do: 1. Contact Centrelink and supply them with the relevant details to challenge your debt - payslips, etc 2. Lodge a complaint that the debt should not exist (Either online via https://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/contact-us/submit-complaint-or-provide-feedback-online or by phone 1800 132 468) 3. Put in a phone call and request the reference number for the complaint you just lodged - this verifies that it was received! 4. Wait 10 business days - this is extremely important. 5. Contact Centrelink again regarding the status of your complaint (Supply them with the reference number you got from step 3). 6. Contact the Ombudsman via https://forms.business.gov.au/smartforms/servlet/SmartForm.html?formCode=oco-complaint-form or on the phone 1300 362 072 (Calls from mobile phones are charged at mobile phone rates!) and lodge a formal complaint.
