Factory farming results in the suffering and slaughter of millions of animals every year in Australia. Chickens and pigs are some of the worst treated animals used in the production of eggs and meat for human consumption. Male chicks are crushed alive or gassed to death as a waste product of the chicken and egg industries. Sows are confined to metal and concrete stalls without the ability to express natural behaviours and nurture their piglets. Animal testing (experimentation for medicine and cosmetics) is useless in providing safe and accurate data for human use. Millions of animals (including primates, cats and dogs) suffer in tests that are not necessary because many alternatives that are much more accurate are currently available.
