MALAYSIA: Let TRAFFIC Audit Confiscated Ivory in Perhilitan & the Custom Dept's Possession

From 2011 to early 2013, a total of 8 ivory seizure took place in the Malaysia peninsular states of Johor, Penang and Selangor.

In January 2012,  illegal shipment of ivory valued at RM 2.4 million (US$775,000) was confiscated by the Royal Malaysian Customs (Jabatan Kastam Diraja Malaysia)

And in December that same year one of the largest ever confiscation of ivory in Malaysian history happened. It amounted to 1,500 tusks. 750 elephants MURDERED in cold blood to fuel this disgusting illegal trade and provide people with ornaments to ostentatiously sit on their shelves.

All confiscated ivory is in possession of the Royal Malaysian Customs & Perhilitan, the Peninsular Malaysia wildlife department.

There has been not a single arrest nor prosecution made to date by our Malaysian authority.

Since then, news reached Malaysian Friends Of The Animals (MFOTA) that a large amount of the confiscated ivory has gone "missing" and numeruous requests this year to Perhilitan - the infamous Malaysian wildlife department - to reveal the whereabouts of the "missing" ivory by NGO's and even concerned individuals have gone unanswered, unsurprisingly. Why remain silent if Perhilitan have nothing to hide?

Perhilitan has also never denied the accusation that an amount of confiscated ivory has been given away to a VIP.

We MFOTA are calling for Perhilitan and the Royal Malaysian Customs to immediately reveal the whereabouts of ALL the confiscated ivory in their possession and urgently allow TRAFFIC to audit them and eventually destroyed, in public.

As for the Royal Malaysian Customs, this is our first and hopefully last request.

Failure to do so is only going to make Malaysia's notorious reputation as one of the 8 worst offending countries in the wrld in the ivory trade (confirmed by CITES in Bangkok earlier this year) worse.
