Foreign investments in jeopardy in the Philippines

Foreign investments in jeopardy in the Philippines
The Issue
To President Duterte, President of the Philippines
Mr. President,
I am addressing this message to you as a foreign investor and one of the unit owners at Monaco Suites de Boracay concerned with the demolition order issued by the DENR.
On my first visit to your country and to the island of Boracay in 2007 I bought in good faith the unit #243 at Monaco Suites de Boracay. The villa #4 was already constructed and all permits were received. I walked in and fell in love with the beauty of the nature and surroundings.
During the same trip in April 2007 I learned not only about the beauty of your country but also about the poverty and hard life of some locals when a heard about a poor woman without shelter, work and money, but pregnant and mother of a 7-year old son.
The story that follows over the last 12 years will be documented in my book, as I am the editor of a travel magazine and my passion is travel and writing.
The love for the Philippines and the people made me help many, but specifically that one woman to whom I extended a helping hand to have shelter, food and schooling for her children.
Only after 5 years and the mother being diagnosed with tuberculosis I accepted the mother's wish to becoming her children's foster mother through the DSWD permission and ultimately adopted them to give them a secured future and education. I have a strong bonding with the Philippines ever since.
Back to the property at Monaco Suites for which I was interviewed in 2011 and which has more than 18k views on youtube, and which is even used as a promotional video on a Facebook page, I remain without words and in shock about a decision from a government office with no solid background to destroy my home and the homes of other foreign investors like me.
How can building permits given in 2005 be revoked and how can it be possible that investors be fooled by some government decisions out of the blue while a foreigner trusted in good faith to put his hard earned money in the Philippines. We did not blindly buy, there was evidence that all paperwork was legal and permits were given for everything needed.
I strongly believe Monaco Suites de Boracay is a role model for construction, landscaping and preserving the nature and should not be jeopardized in any way by wrong decisions.
Mr. President, I urge you to take a close look into this scandalous situation, which needs to be solved as soon as possible and to protect foreign investment for the sake of the future of your country. If the word gets spread that Philippines is not a safe haven I believe that the wrong people could invade the country and the good ones would stay away.
Respectfully,
Karine Lackner
