Hi, my name is Nick and I am starting this petition on behalf of all my friends and family who have had their houses and entire lives destroyed due to the recent LA Fires. 

Imagine waking up to flames at your doorstep, watching helplessly as everything you've worked for turns to ash. This nightmare became reality for countless Los Angeles families, including my own, in the recent devastating fires. 

I don't want to bash any leaders because we need to come together as a community and heal. However, this tragic fire could have been entirely preventable if the city had made some better policy decisions in the past. For example, 2 years ago, Fire Chief Kristin Crowley asked for money to help create a specialized wildland unit to respond to daily brush fires and scrape vegetation, dig ditches, and do other work to ensure that blazes did not spread or rekindle. However, instead of providing more funding, the city has repeatedly attempted to slash the Fire Department's budget – the very people who risk their lives protecting us.

Another example is that just three months ago, all prescribed burns in California were halted – a crucial fire prevention technique that could have contained these infernos before they devoured our neighborhoods. This reckless decision had predictable consequences that have left our communities defenseless.

These aren't just policy failures – they're personal tragedies. Families who've lost generations of memories. Children who no longer have bedrooms to return to. Elderly neighbors forced to rebuild their lives from scratch. Each story represents a preventable disaster, ignored by those sworn to protect us.

We cannot wait for another community to burn before taking action. We cannot accept the cycle of destruction, fleeting attention, and inevitable repeat. The time for change is now.
