In Newberry, many high school students, like myself, find ourselves in a challenging situation every Wednesday. We are responsible for picking up our younger siblings from either the middle or elementary schools, yet there's a problematic gap in our school release timings. While the younger ones are released much earlier, high school students at Newberry High School are only dismissed an hour and 23 minutes later. This discrepancy creates a difficult and unsafe circumstance for those of us who have to wait anxiously, knowing our siblings are unsupervised for an extended period.

Early release on Wednesdays for all Newberry schools, including Newberry High School, would significantly alleviate this problem. It ensures the safety and well-being of our younger siblings and fosters a balanced school life for high school students who bear these responsibilities. Many districts nationwide have adopted early release days to accommodate family needs and improve student welfare, and Newberry could benefit tremendously from such a change.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, synchronized school schedules promote better family engagement and alleviate student stress. By aligning the release times, Newberry schools can enhance academic performance and family involvement.
