It is no secret that the coronavirus is getting increasingly worse in Georgia with nearly 100,000 cases. We should be taking every precaution but the state of Georgia is failing to do the bare minimum to protect its citizens. The CDC has advised to avoid gatherings of 10+ people, wear a mask, and stay home as much as possible, unless going to an essential business. However, the horrific sight seen at Rock N Taco this weekend (people gathered in a concert setting without masks or social distancing enforced) proves that we can't trust some people to make wise decisions for the good of the community.

We live in Fulton County which currently has over 8,600 confirmed cases (as of 07/05/2020), the second worst in the state. Fulton County also has the largest death toll in the state with over 300 victims of the virus so far. Not to mention that we have the highest hospitalizations in the state and if we do not act soon our healthcare system could be in danger of collapsing. Source: Georgia Department of Public Health.

Mayor Van Johnson took the step to make masks mandatory in Savannah, Georgia for the safety of his citizens. Police were handing out masks to citizens who didn't have one on and business owners in the area even went to say they supported the order: “I feel so much comfort in knowing that people are required by law to wear them, just because it is a team effort in my opinion," The Impeccable Pig store manager, Madelyn Radwan said. This is the kind of leadership we need from Mayor Henry.

On the Roswell government website it states that Kemp has signed an Executive order that BANNED gatherings over 50 and requires people to social distance. Anyone who takes a stroll down Canton Street or to the Roswell Mill can see that this is not being enforced. The website also states, "Please note: Under the governor's executive order, county and city governments may not issue orders that are less or more restrictive than his order." The Roswell government, however, is disobeying this order by doing LESS than the executive order already by not enforcing the ban on large gatherings or social distancing. So, if Mayor Henry can get away not abiding by the executive order now then there is no reason why we can't follow Savannah's footsteps in making masks mandatory.

At the start of the epidemic Mayor Henry was interviewed on CNN and said that she did NOT support Kemp reopening the state so early but couldn't do anything to fight against it. Well Mayor Henry, this is something YOU CAN do in to protect the people in YOUR CITY and we are asking you to MAKE MASKS MANDATORY in Roswell.
