The UK Labour government has recently announced it will spend £9bn on 12-miles of new motorway under the Thames, the Lower Thames Crossing.

£9bn would fund up to 4.5million new zebra crossings if we adopted a simple, international design for zebra crossings. Of course we don’t need that many crossings, but a lot more would be welcome.

And of course spending money on zebra crossings isn’t wasted. It will employ people for the installation and maintenance, and have a huge benefit for public health.
