Our democratic society values every individual's right to vote. My own grandparents, one having even worked within Parliament House itself, were once avid voters who valued their role in shaping our nation. With time, however, they, like many other senior citizens, lose interest and ability to keep up with ever-changing political landscapes. At the age they're now, they are no longer concerned about politics.

I see this happen with many others across Australia as well. Hence, I raise this petition to make voting voluntary for Australians aged 80 and above. As of 2021, there are almost half a million Australians over 80 years old. Their need for ease and comfort should not be overshadowed by the obligation to vote.

This proposed change is to nurture their freedom of choice while acknowledging their contributions to our society. It's essential to remember that everyone deserves the right to vote in a democracy, but this privilege should not become a burden to our seniors, especially if they lose interest or ability to keep abreast with the political scene.

Let's honor our elders by eliminating the compulsion and granting them the choice. Sign this petition today to show your support for making voting voluntary for Australians aged 80 years and above!
