As a parent of a 21-week-old daughter, I am deeply concerned for her health and the health of children everywhere. Despite ensuring that my daughter has received all her vaccinations up-to-date, she remains at risk. The fact is, she's too young to receive certain crucial immunizations like the MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccine. Our collective safety is compromised every day we allow ignorance to dictate the spread of preventable diseases.

The resurgence of diseases like measles which has had 847 laboratory confirmed cases since the start of the year—a disease once well on its way to being eradicated—is alarmingly linked to a decline in vaccination rates. This trend is driven by misinformation and lack of action, threatening the lives of countless children who rely on herd immunity to stay safe.

Almost 1 in 5 children going to primary school in the UK are not vaccinated. Vaccinations are not just an individual choice; they are a social responsibility. Mandatory vaccinations for healthy children are essential to maintaining high immunity levels across the community, protecting those who are too young or unable to be vaccinated for medical reasons.

We call on lawmakers to implement a policy making vaccinations mandatory for all healthy children. Moreover, we seek the introduction of negligence charges for parents who actively choose not to vaccinate their children.

By enforcing these measures, we uphold the safety and health of current and future generations. Let us not allow misinformation to set us back decades in fighting preventable diseases.
