The Issue

What do we need?

When setting up a profile, you choose your picture, name and bio. Another box should be available that lets users display their pronouns (including neopronouns). This will encourage people to share their pronouns, including cisgender people. It also creates a more inclusive environment on platforms that are home to a diverse world, and part of this world includes some not very nice people.

Why is this important?

If you're transgender, one of many reasons for doing this is that it means people will know your pronouns before they speak to you. This lowers the chances of you being misgendered.

If you're cisgender (not a transgender person), it shows that you're an ally and a supporter of trans rights. Transgender people will know that they are safe to express themselves honestly around you. It also normalises discussion about gender identity and gender expression. In an increasingly progressive world, allyship is a beautiful thing and transgender people shouldn't be afraid to share their pronouns.

We don't want to force people to put their pronouns in their bio. Having a dedicated space will simply encourage (not force) more people to share their pronouns.
