Make this intersection safe before someone gets killed

The issue

If you regularly drive or cycle along Barracluff Avenue, Bondi Beach, you will often have had to slam your brakes on to avoid vehicles turning right out of Lamrock Avenue without stopping at the 'STOP' sign.

The problem is: the intersection of Barracluff and Lamrock is only metres from a roundabout, and drivers exit Lamrock as if they're entering the roundabout, without stopping (despite the 'STOP' sign) and without noticing traffic on Barracluff.

On Saturday, 30 August 2025, local resident Taya was heading home on her scooter, and had just exited the roundabout onto Barracluff when she was hit and thrown onto the road by a car doing exactly this.

Paramedics called an ambulance and Taya was taken to hospital. She has injuries from head to toe, and is lucky no bones were broken or worse. When her neighbours on nearby Rickard Avenue heard, we decided "That's the last straw, we've all had near misses at that intersection, we have to do something before someone gets killed."

Other local residents' comments include:

''It's such a treacherous corner. Someone just ran the stop sign in front of me a little while ago. Happens most days." (Emma)

"That corner is a shocker ... cannot tell you how many times I've had close calls with people driving straight through the stop sign." (Roma)

"That stop sign is ignored more often than not. We should make police and council aware before there is a fatality." (Pearl)

"That intersection is super dangerous, so many people don't stop coming out of Lamrock, we've both been nearly hit, in our ute and on our bikes too, countless times. I tried to talk to a councillor about it once, but didn't get anywhere." (Helen and Allan)

"Such a bad stop sign intersection that one." (Michael)

... and the local police officer looking after Taya’s case says he’s attended more traffic incidents at that intersection than he can count.

If  you want Waverley Council to act immediately to make this dangerous intersection safe, please sign our petition and share it with other locals. The more signatures we get, the more likely Council are to act. Let's get change underway while Taya's injuries are healing, and hope she's the last person impacted by this dangerous intersection.
