There have been a number of successful suicide attempts at this bridge.  It's the bridge that goes over the M67 in Hyde (from Halton Street to Commercial Brow).

We propose raising the railing height as it's quite low to start with.

I was in contact with Highways England after a last suicide in 2018, we were in discussions then as to how we can raise the bridge railings, costs were mentioned and that they would have to be in contact with the local council - however there have been quite a number of unsuccessful bids since then.

Another thing to mention.  When you're travelling to Hyde from the roundabout the bridge is obscured by motorway signs, so motorists couldn't see if they could avert a tragedy either, until it's too late!

I have written to Highways England to let them know of the latest tragedy, but whilst they are mulling it over and contacting the council, I thought we could raise awareness with the public and hopefully you'll sign this petition so we can push it to raise the railings higher. 

A lot of people I've spoken to are fully supportive of raising the bridge railing height.

I've attached a picture of me (Andrea) when I was helping Bridge the Gap put notes of hope on the railings.  I'm 5ft4' on a good day and you can see the railings are waist height on me.
