Make the Metropolitan Library (Whetstone Branch) Quiet Again!

The Issue

If you have noticed, many libraries, specifically the Whetstone branch of the Metropolitan Library, have essentially been converted into community centers, which has irritated not only me, but my family and many friends. I looked around online and found that this phenomenon is occurring nationwide. What’s frustrating is that I’ve seen library staff claim that the majority of people just want a louder environment for the library, which just doesn’t make sense to me. I think this is a loud minority, quiet majority situation and people are just too afraid to say something. Well I’m not, personally. I want to be able to read and hear myself whisper with a friend, and I want to not need headphones if I want to prevent a headache. Having dance parties, DnD clubs, and improv clubs in the library and allowing everyone to basically scream is beyond infuriating. It’s especially upsetting to see this happen to the Whetstone branch because of the fact there’s literally a recreational center right next to it! “Now, hey, if the rules changed then it should be fine, right?” Absolutely! I wouldn't make this petition and I would’ve sucked it up, haha. On the official website where you can read the rules that apply to all of the Columbus Metropolitan libraries, the previously described grievances are strictly forbidden. People need to be told to quiet down, but the library is unfortunately encouraging and organizing it. Now obviously I’m not saying that if you make a single noise you need to be drawn and quartered, but I just can’t wrap my head around shouting in the middle of a place known to be a quiet sanctuary where all people alike can come together and pursue knowledge together. Please, sign this petition and help me lead the way to making libraries back to normal, one step at a time. Thank you.
