Make the Kensington/Windsor Intersection Safe for Our Students

The Issue

Every day, students and parents cross at the Kensington/Windsor intersection on their way to and from school. This should be a safe and simple routine. Instead, it has become increasingly dangerous.

Drivers frequently speed, fail to stop, or act aggressively toward pedestrians - including our crossing guard, who is simply doing her job to protect children. Recently, a driver harassed our crossing guard for "taking too long" while she was safely escorting families across the street. This behavior puts our children and our community at risk.

We cannot accept this as normal.

We, the undersigned, call on the City of Arlington Heights, to take immediate action to make this intersection safer. Specifically, we urge the city to:

  • Install either a stop sign or a pedestrian activated stop light at the Kensington/Windsor to slow traffic and protect pedestrians
  • Increase enforcement of traffic laws during peak hours
  • Add visible safety measures

Our children deserve to feel safe walking to school. With your leadership, we can prevent accidents before they happen and show our community that safety comes first.

Please act now - before it's too late.

Signed,

Concerned parents, caregivers, and community members of Windsor School
