Make the East Walker River Open All Year Single Barbless Catch and Release

The Issue

Recent regulation changes on the California section of the East Walker River have doubled the limit, from 1 fish over 18" to 2 fish over 18", as well as removed the barbless hook requirement and closed it to all fishing when the areas regular fishing season is closed, meaning it is no longer legal to fish in the Winter. It is still artificial flies or lures only as it was before.

These regulation changes were apparently done for the betterment of the fishery.

I believe, as do many other anglers who fish the East Walker that these regulation changes, in particular the removal of the barbless hook requirement, will ultimately have a very adverse effect on the quality of the fishery.

This being said, I would like to gain as much support as possible for adjusting these regulations in a direction that will more likely help sustain this world class fishery.

I propose that the Department of Fish and Wildlife make the East Walker River artificial flies or lures with single barbless hooks only, catch and release, open all year.

I believe these changes would promote a sustainable, world class, year round fishery for everyone to enjoy. If you feel the same about the East Walker River regulations as I do, please sign the petition and I'll get the information to the Department of Fish and Wildlife for their review.
