Make the Champlain Heights Trails Parkland

Make the Champlain Heights Trails Parkland
The Issue
There are several trails that go through the Champlain Heights community that connect to services, schools, bus stops, parks, and the community center. They provide safe, convenient off-roadway pedestrian routes throughout this corner of the city.
The problem is that these trails were never designated as parkland- they're able to be developed upon if the case ever occurred that would allow redevelopment of the area. They're currently part of the City of Vancouver's Property Endowment Fund and as such, the city could very quickly decide to use it for other uses.
These trails are so integral to the sense of community and the uniqueness of the area. They're currently serviced by the Park Board already, but the land isn't legally parkland.
These trails should be made to be an official park, as part of Champlain Heights Park or their own separate park. They would add to the protected canopy of tree cover in the city, as well as force the Park Board to do invasive species removal work, which is currently threatening the health of most of the trees in the area, both on the trails and in the developments around the community.
