The Issue

I advocate every day to help these beautiful, soulful animals have a chance at a loving family and home. Too many don't make it out of the shelter doors daily, and this is heart-breaking. They deserve to live, just like every human deserves life, so do they!

In Texas, a significant number of healthy shelter animals, including newborns, mothers, and innocent creatures like dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens are euthanized daily. This practice is unnecessary and cruel in a time when social media can be harnessed to find these animals loving homes. It is time to put pressure on the authorities to enact laws that make all Texas shelters no-kill.

Around 625,000 cats and dogs are euthanized in shelters in the United States each year, according to the ASPCA. Many of these animals are healthy and could have been adopted into loving homes. Texas shelters contribute substantially to this staggering figure. As a community, we must strive to protect these innocent lives and work towards a system where no animal is needlessly killed.

Achieving no-kill shelter status involves promoting pet adoption, increasing public awareness of the plight of shelter animals, and facilitating support for animal rescue organizations. Shelters can work with rescue groups, expand foster programs, and utilize technology to showcase adoptable animals. Encouraging spay and neuter programs will help reduce the number of unwanted animals entering shelters.

Join me in demanding that the Government of Texas introduce a legislative mandate turning all shelters into no-kill zones. Let's extend our support to animal advocates and rescue organizations working tirelessly to ensure every animal has the chance to find a forever home. By signing this petition, you're contributing to building a kinder, more compassionate system for our shelter animals. Your signature may save a life.

Please sign this petition to urge action now before it's too late for more of these precious lives.
