Make tap water drinkable!

Make tap water drinkable!
The Issue
Our water is undrinkable. In the Newark & Sherwood area, our tap water regularly has a strong TCP-like taste and odour, which makes it unfit for consumption. This is adding further expense to residents who are forced to invest in filters, bottled water or have been advised to put the water in the fridge for 24 hours before it’s drinkable or let the taps run for a few minutes every time they want a drink.
It may be legally compliant but it’s not acceptable to be supplied undrinkable tap water by Severn Trent Water. As paying customers, we have the right to access safe, clean, and drinkable water directly from our taps. It is unacceptable that our basic need for drinkable water is not being met, and we are left questioning the quality of what is supposed to be a fundamental utility.
According to the Drinking Water Inspectorate, the acceptable taste and odor threshold for domestic water ensures it is palatable and free from any offensive characteristics. The current state of our water fails to meet these basic principles.
We urge Severn Trent Water to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation into this matter and allocate resources effectively to identify the contaminants altering the quality of our water supply. We request transparency in these efforts, with regular updates and a detailed action plan that outlines how Severn Trent Water intends to restore the standard of tap water to a safe and acceptable level.
Through this petition, we are voicing our shared frustration and demanding accountability and urgent action from Severn Trent Water. We ask them to prioritize the resolution of this issue, ensuring that residents across Newark & Sherwood receive the quality of water they rightly deserve.
Join us in this critical cause, and let's work together to secure clean tap water for our community.
Please sign this petition to help us hold Severn Trent Water accountable and make our water drinkable again.
