The issue

The global K-pop industry is facing a severe crisis of toxic fan behaviour, cyberbullying, and intense psychological pressure. Recently, the group ENHYPEN and their leader Jungwon have faced an overwhelming wave of internet hate, with hostile fans burning merchandise and sending threats. However, this is not just about one group. This dangerous, destructive pattern is happening to every single K-pop group across the entire entertainment industry.
Idols are human beings, not objects of obsession. We cannot always change corporate company decisions, but we can change how we treat these young artists. Whether they are minors or adults, all idols deserve the freedom to be healthy, calm, safe, and happy. We must stop the toxic "fandom wars"—where fans roast and tear down one group just to praise their own favorites. This constant hostility is stripping these talented artists of their unique, bright, and bubbly personalities. It drives many to extreme stress, self-harm, and in the most tragic cases of the past, suicide. We need no more hate and rumours.
We must act before another tragedy occurs. We need to respect what idols say and protect their well-being. We urge our fellow fans to choose peace, kindness, and respectful support over toxicity and possessiveness. Furthermore, we call on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Foreign Minister Penny Wong, and Member for Fowler Dai Le to use Australia's diplomatic and cultural influence to advocate for stricter international digital safety standards and mandatory mental health protections for young artists. Let’s work together to bring back the bright, positive, and safe spirit of K-pop for all groups.
