The Issue

Tetotum Park is a cherished community resource in Antelope California, where countless families and young athletes gather for recreational activities, events, and community bonding. Unfortunately, recent observations have shown that Sunrise Park and Recreation Department has been neglecting Tetotum Park, which is supposed to be a hub for youth sports in the area. This neglect is affecting the quality and availability of facilities for our children, who are in crucial developmental stages and need a place to nurture their physical and social skills.

Tetotum Park used to be bustling with energy, with well-maintained fields for soccer, baseball, and other sports activities. However, it has been observed that the upkeep of these facilities has significantly dwindled. Fields are not regularly mowed, baseball/softball diamonds are not maintained and unplayable, and essential amenities like restrooms and water fountains often remain out of order. This is not only an inconvenience but also a safety concern for the young athletes who frequent this park.

A study by the National Recreation and Park Association emphasizes that well-maintained parks and recreational spaces play a pivotal role in the well-being of children, promoting physical health, and providing a safe environment to socialize. Lack of proper maintenance directly contradicts these community goals, forcing families to seek alternate locations which may lack the convenience and community spirit of Tetotum Park.

To address these issues, we urge Sunrise Park and Recreation Department to prioritize the following actionable steps:
1. Allocate necessary budget and resources for the regular maintenance and upgrading of Tetotum Park facilities.
2. Implement a regular maintenance schedule to ensure that all areas of the park, especially the sports fields, are safe and fit for use.
3. Fix and maintain baseball/softball diamonds and fields to meet safety standards and encourage youth participation.
4. Ensure that all essential amenities, including restrooms and water fountains, are operational and clean at all times.

By taking these steps, Sunrise Park and Recreation Department will not only enhance the quality of life for our community's children but also demonstrate their commitment to fostering a supportive and thriving environment for youth sports.

Sign this petition to urge Sunrise Park and Recreation to invest in Tetotum Park for the benefit of our young athletes and the broader community.
