Sign petition. Australian gov’t to stop drug to see if you have aHUS. Relapse? – Oops, I guess so!

It’s bad enough that the Australian government is not providing the life-saving drug Soliris to those on dialysis. But now the government wants to gamble with the lives of those who have been saved for the last 2 years. They are going to force these aHUS patients to stop treatment in December. They think the only way to prove someone has aHUS is by removing their treatment and seeing if they relapse. A relapse will likely cause kidney failure, other major organ failure, or even death. Atypical hemolytic-uremic syndrome (aHUS), is a genetic, chronic, life-threatening blood disease that has no cure. Stopping medication arbitrarily after 2 years makes no medical sense. The decision to stop should be made by the doctor along with the patient, not the government!
