Their billionaire owners and their political lapdogs try to cloak this under the guise of 'Free Speech', but free speech laws are not there to protect criminal behaviour.  If print or traditional media broadcast this they would be rightly brought to task for doing so.  This negligence has allowed the persistent dissemination of political misinformation, jeopardizing democratic processes and creating deep societal rifts.

The existing laws are insufficient to tackle this menace. Social media companies have profited tremendously, while the social fabric continues to fray. It is time for governments around the world to step up and implement robust legislation that holds these companies legally accountable for their content. We must push for laws that make the deliberate dissemination of political misinformation a criminal offence, ensuring they face real consequences for their actions.
Moreover, these laws should mandate that platforms employ comprehensive fact-checking and transparent content moderation processes to minimise the spread of false information. Only through such concrete, enforceable actions can we reclaim the integrity of our digital spaces and safeguard the democratic values that are under threat.
