Make Shortys raise their limit to 6 standard drinks
The Issue
I recently had an experience at Shortys that I found incredibly frustrating. I asked for what I considered my second pitcher of beer, but to my surprise, I was declined service. The reason? Earlier that evening, I had a small pickle shot! This came as a shock, especially because I truly believe that patrons should have the freedom to enjoy two pitchers and a shot without being cut off.
While I understand that safety is a priority and overconsumption is indeed a legitimate concern, I believe that Shortys' current policy is overly restrictive and doesn't account for many regular customers' preferences who know their limits and consume alcohol responsibly.
The current policy limiting customers to less than six standard drinks in total just doesn't account for adults who can responsibly enjoy their night without overindulging. Most bars offer flexibility and rely on experienced bartenders to gauge whether a customer has reached their limit. We are proposing that Shortys adopt a similar approach—one that combines structured guidelines with staff discretion.
In support of this change, let's consider the industry standards: according to guidelines set by various health organizations, moderate drinking is generally categorized as up to one drink per hour for women and two for men. Therefore, a suggested policy allowing for six standard drinks per visit is both reasonable and responsible.
Moreover, many venues provide their regular patrons with leeway, rewarding their responsible drinking habits with slightly more lenient limits. These establishments often see benefits in customer satisfaction and retention, as well as building a loyal community. We're urging Shortys to take a step in this direction as well.
Enhancing customer experience while maintaining a focus on safety can elevate Shortys' reputation as a responsible yet customer-friendly establishment. This balance could lead to a better experience for all patrons.
