Why this petition matters

Started by Amy Newey

Homeless services turn away 260 people daily due to lack of accommodation. Homeless shelters should be free for all and accessible to those even with pets. Too many people are turned away from shelters due to having pets or even struggle to get in the door as they can’t afford a night there or pay for the meals. The housing crisis should be a private sector with an appointed secretary or minister to oversee the resources for the homeless. Government owned shelters should be put in place and paid for by tax to fund the hospitality towards the homeless.

These facilities should have hot, healthy meals- at least twice a day. They should have hot running water with separate bedrooms to ensure privacy and a sense of dignity in a time of need. Sanitary products will be free for use when needed.  Access to clothes and food banks should be given upon existing the facility and even access to a job centre. Trained individuals will be working in these shelters to aide the homeless in the next steps to help them get jobs or into the national benefit system.

It is of paramount importance to keep homeless people safe in a time of uncertainty and strife. Sign this petition to make shelters and hostels more accessible for the homeless.
