The Issue

In Ireland, the safety of our communities is of paramount importance, yet the limited access to information about sex offenders currently residing in our neighborhoods compromises that safety. Currently, the Sex Offenders Register is not accessible to the public, leaving families in the dark about potential dangers that may be right next door. It is our right as citizens and community members to be informed and to take necessary precautions to protect ourselves and our loved ones.

In countries like the United States, the UK, and Australia, sex offender registries are available to the public, helping communities stay alert and make informed decisions. Studies show that public access to these registries plays a crucial role in community safety, allowing for increased awareness and vigilance among residents. It's time for Ireland to take a stand and adopt similar practices, providing transparency and security to its citizens.

Making the Sex Offenders Register public will not only empower residents to make informed choices but also act as a deterrent for potential offenders. Communities deserve to know who they are living beside to implement stricter community watch programs and foster safer environments for children and vulnerable individuals.

We call upon the Irish government to amend current legislation and make the Sex Offenders Register a public document. By doing so, we can enhance community safety, foster greater trust in law enforcement, and reduce the occurrence of sex crimes.

Please join us in urging the government to protect our communities by signing this petition. Together, we can make a difference.
