Make Scrapple Delaware's Official State Food

Make Scrapple Delaware's Official State Food
The Issue
Being a resident of Delaware and a fervent lover of Scrapple, I have seen firsthand the importance and presence of this renowned food in the mid-Atlantic region. Scrapple, a traditional dish of pork scraps and trimmings combined with cornmeal and wheat flour, has deep roots in our community. It's more than just a meal; it's a culinary treasure that ties people together, showcasing our state’s agricultural richness and the craft of our local food producers. Multiple brands of scrapple and countless family recipes thrive within our community, reinforcing its cultural significance.
It is an undeniable fact that scrapple has become an unofficial symbol of our state, gracing many breakfast tables and local food festivals. Recognizing it as the official state food of Delaware would simply formalize what many of us already feel. According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Delaware ranks 16th among U.S. states for pig and hog inventory, which directly contributes to the production of our beloved scrapple (Source: USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service).
In the spirit of valuing our cultural heritage, this petition is an appeal to make Scrapple Delaware's Official State Food. May we honor Scrapple's significant contribution to our state identity and illustrate our pride in local cuisine to the rest of the nation and the world. Add your voice to this movement; sign this petition. Together, we can make Scrapple the official state food of Delaware.
