Let’s work together to protect our neighborhoods from dangerous ATV riders and excessive vehicle noise that disrupts daily life for families, children, and pets across the city. 

Dear Mayor Lurie and SFPD leadership,

We, the undersigned residents of San Francisco, urge your offices to take immediate, visible action to enforce existing traffic and noise laws that are being blatantly ignored and are negatively impacting our daily lives.

 
1. Reckless ATV and Dirt Bike Riders
Groups riding unregistered ATVs and dirt bikes are frequently seen speeding through city streets, ignoring traffic lights, stop signs, and pedestrian crossings. These actions put the safety of residents, especially children and elderly pedestrians, at serious risk.

Our Request:

Increase patrols in areas where these riders congregate.
Use your authority to impound illegal vehicles.
Modify pursuit protocols, where appropriate, to hold repeat offenders accountable.
Collaborate with other enforcement agencies to track and prevent these group rides before they start.
 
2. Illegal Loud Mufflers Causing Noise Pollution
Motorcycles and cars with modified or illegal mufflers are creating extreme noise pollution throughout the city—especially at night. These disruptions cause significant distress to families, children, and pets, and harm the overall well-being of our communities.

Our Request:

Actively cite vehicles in violation of existing noise and exhaust ordinances.
Increase presence in known high-noise corridors and neighborhoods.
Publicly communicate enforcement efforts so citizens know their concerns are being addressed.
 
Why This Matters
We are not asking for new laws—we are asking for enforcement of the ones already on the books. The lack of visible action sends the message that lawlessness and public disruption are tolerated in San Francisco. This erodes community trust and degrades the quality of life in our city.

 
Our Call to Action
We respectfully request that the Mayor’s Office and SFPD:

Prioritize enforcement of unregistered and reckless ATV/dirt bike use.
Crack down on illegal mufflers contributing to widespread noise pollution.
Provide regular updates to the public on enforcement outcomes.
San Francisco deserves to be a safe, peaceful, and livable city. It’s time to take action.
