Make ROTC in Thailand voluntary and optional

ประเด็นรณรงค์

I am deeply concerned about the mandatory Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) program in Thailand. The current system is outdated and imposes restrictions on students' educational freedom. The compulsory nature of ROTC limits students' ability to pursue different educational pathways, such as foundation courses, which are more aligned with their interests and career aspirations.

For many students, being forced into a path they do not enjoy significantly discourages their will to learn and diminishes their overall wellbeing. This rigid educational framework stifles creativity and growth, causing unnecessary stress and dissatisfaction among young learners who are compelled to adhere to a program that does not resonate with their values or future goals.

In a rapidly changing world, education should be flexible and adaptable to individual needs. Students should have the autonomy to choose their educational paths, fostering an environment that nurtures passion and creativity. Making ROTC optional and voluntary would empower students to make choices that align with their interests and aspirations, ultimately leading to a more engaged and motivated student body.

Moreover, encouraging voluntary participation in ROTC can still achieve the program's objectives without the coercive mandates. By allowing students the freedom to choose, we can ensure that those who participate are genuinely interested and dedicated. This approach not only respects individual preferences but also enhances the quality and effectiveness of the program itself.

It's time to move towards a more modern and student-centric approach to education in Thailand. Please join me in urging the Ministry of Education to make the ROTC program voluntary and optional, ensuring that students have the right to pursue the educational paths that best suit their interests and future plans.
