Make responsible pet ownership bylaw and increase fine if any dog injures a person.
The Issue
I am Sayma Refat from Lethbridge, Alberta. My elder son Saihan has been bitten by a dog at YWCA Summer camp at his own school playground on 13 July 2022 at Lethbridge, Alberta. My son got some bites on face, 2 in ear, and 1 in knee. He could die if the YWCA staff would not have protected his life. That dangerous dog bit the YWCA staff’s hand. The dog without chain, tag, and owner ran towards my son, fell him down, and started biting him like dog food. The dog owners only paid 1000 dollars for 6 charges by the dog bylaws of Lethbridge. Community Animal Service Lethbridge made agreement with the dangerous dog owners and proposed to the Provincial Judge that dangerous dog can come back to the owners by specific conditions. That proposal of Community Animal Service Lethbridge made my son more traumatized after they told me about that proposal in front of my 9 years old son. He is scared to go to his school again if dangerous dog comes back to irresponsible owners near to his school playground where he was attacked badly by that dog. It should never happen to any kid here in his/her own school playground in Lethbridge. I want City of Lethbridge, Alberta to make responsible pet ownership bylaws and add more fine if any dog injures a person. City of Lethbridge should monitor all dog owners regularly and check they are following dog bylaws or not. The investigation officers of Community Animal Service Lethbridge who proposed that the dangerous dog could come back to owners by conditions should be under investigation by City of Lethbridge. My son told the dog should not be killed for mistakes of irresponsible owners who were keeping the aggressive dog without license. As the victim’s mother I am ready to pay to any shelter of Lethbridge expenses per month for keeping that dog in their shelter. Please make that city safe for our children, and all residents. Community Animal Service Lethbridge is a private organization who works by contract for City of Lethbridge. They should be under investigation that why my child’s wound, trauma do not matter to them and why they proposed to the Judge that a dog which was trying to kill a child in his school playground at supervised YWCA summer camp should come back by any condition to the owners who were keeping that aggrresive dog without license. https://globalnews.ca/news/8994520/lethbridge-family-speaks-out-dog-attack/https://.ca/news/8994520/lethbridge-family-speaks-out-dog-attack/https://calgary.ctvnews.ca/just-shocked-lethbridge-mom-reacts-to-son-being-bitten-by-stray-dog-reminding-to-train-pets-1.5988317https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/lethbridge-pitbull-attack-child-camp-1.6520988?__vfz=medium%3Dsharebar
