The Issue

As a 23 year resident of Cambria, I've witnessed painful scenes of life lost due to high speed driving in our residential neighborhoods - be they people, pets, or the local deer population. It saddens me to see the threat lurking in our wonderful community, threatening the safety of both residents and out-of-town visitors who might not be aware of the dangers in our narrow, bike-lane-free streets.

In 2022, I was able to get six new deer signs installed on State Highway One. This small victory proves that change is possible, but there's still more to be done. That's why I'm requesting our County authorities to reduce the speed limit on all residential streets to 25 mph. This reduction in speed will considerably decrease the risk of fatal accidents. Research shows that a pedestrian has a 90% chance of survival if hit by a car travelling at 20mph. This decrease steeply to a 50% survival rate at 30mph (Road Safety Observatory, 2020).

We've all seen the impact of excessive speeds on our wildlife and neighborhood tranquility, let's take a step towards making Cambria safer for all. Please, sign this petition to reduce the speed limit to 25mph in Cambria residential streets.
