The Issue

Stray animals need care. India needs protection.

Every year, thousands of stray dogs and cats in India suffer from rabies, injuries, malnutrition, and diseases—many of which go untreated. Rabies alone causes the deaths of hundreds of people every year, despite being a preventable disease.

While animal lovers and NGOs try their best, the problem is too big to solve without government-level action.

I, Nelufar Khan, request the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, the Animal Welfare Board of India, and all state governments to:

Launch a nationwide free rabies vaccination drive for stray animals.

Set up regular health check-up and treatment camps for street dogs and cats.

Partner with veterinary colleges, NGOs, and community volunteers for implementation.

These animals don’t have a voice—but their health affects human safety, especially in urban and rural areas where people and strays live in close contact.

Rabies is 100% preventable, yet India still sees preventable deaths. A national vaccination and treatment program will save millions of animal lives—and protect human lives too.

This is not just about animal rights. It’s about public health, compassion, and responsibility.

Let’s build a safer, kinder India—for all living beings.
